I like the expression, breaking bread. Surely, the best part of any day, when we eat and share time with the people, we love the most.
Bread is a life fundamental, up there with oxygen and water, although now on the ever-lengthening list of foods to avoid.
But bread is more than food. Here in the UK, it is slang for money and as we all know, money makes the world goes round.
When God fed his people in the dessert, it was with manna (bread) from heaven and no surprise that Bread of Heaven is one of the great hymns.
And so, it was in my childhood that bread played a central role and all from the hands of my mum and my boys Granny Tess.
