Takes on Life Vol.1 is designed to be read here and there when you get 5 minutes but I couldn’t put the book down and finished it within a couple hours. I highly recommend this book full of relatable and hilarious stories and scenarios. I look forward to reading the next!

I’ve received my books only yesterday and read Takes on Life in one sitting, or one “take” to continue the analogy (not to worry I was not experiencing any digestive distress) and enjoyed it very much. It’s brilliantly funny! I read your blog every Sunday and today’s made me laugh out loud, I’ve had a similar experience with my mum with the unfortunate conclusion of me having to explain what a butt plug was. I’ve just finished Chapter 5 of The Fruit Bowl and I’m a blubbering mess so taking a minute to breath and write this review, very excited to see where the story will lead next, I will of course dutifully report back once finished and looking at my social calendar at the moment should be sooner rather than later. Thank you for making me laugh in these troubled times.

I finished Takes On Life Vol. 1 and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Although there are 31 ‘takes’ for each day of the month I couldn’t put the book down. It made me laugh out loud on several occasions and I greatly enjoyed regaling anyone in my vicinity about an amusing anecdote from the current ‘take’ that I was reading. Sincerely hoping Dominic will do a part two, until then I am off to read another of his books!

Takes on Life is a great book for both avid  readers or those who wish they had more time to read. It’s a collection of 31 short essays, ranging from funny to thought provoking to heart warming, and everything in between. It was nice to have an entire month worth an essays. Highly recommended!

Receiving this book as a birthday present, I couldn’t be more surprised. After my exams, I found myself a comfortable and cozy couch, started to read it,  and simply just loved it. Takes on Life Vol.1 is such an enjoyable book. It even made me laugh out loud, something rare these days. While Lockdown 3.0 is still going on, it is essential to give yourself a happy little moment, I found that within this book. While we all live different lives, we can all recognize little bits of ourselves in Takes on Live Vol.1.  It so happens that I sometimes cite something out of the book to my family, which led to them also wanting to read it. The way it is written makes it easy to read even as a non-native English speaker. My first experience with the work of Dominic Holland made me eager for more.

I read, Takes on Life, in the month of January, one story at a time, and it was what I looked forward to at the end of each day for a lighthearted laugh or bit of inspiration.  There isn’t the proper language to describe how happy this book made me during this pandemic (now that so many things are dumb). And now a moment of silence because I have to wait until volume. 2 comes out. I absolutely died reading about Dom’s pink golf club story (#31).

I Annoyed my husband as I kept reading parts out to him, as the life similarities between him and Dominics views were so alike (“shouting at the tv, as a sign of ageing” so true!) Life in these Covid times, especially as a healthcare provider, or being touched by Covids effect on lives, is no joke, therefore having uplifting and humorous takes on everyday life, to make you chuckle and laugh, and take you elsewhere is my cup of tea.

In these difficult times it is nice to just sit back and laugh while reading. Which happened a lot while reading his takes on life vol. 1. I also read this within two days and I’m not even a native English speaker myself. His stories are extremely funny and somewhat relatable. It read this during online classes and was asked remotely what was so funny. I would most definitely recommend this book to anyone who just wants to relax and have a laugh.

I just fished reading your book Takes on life and really enjoyed it. The idea of reading one chapter per day was a very good one and it really gave me something to do and to look forward to each day in these hard lockdown times. It was just a bit difficult for me to understand everything you wrote, because I am from Germany and therefore my english sometimes was not good enough and I had to read some passages over and over again. But even with that kind of problem, I really think this book does, what you want it to. Nearly every chapter gave me something to laugh or at least put a smile on my face. There is just one thing I would definitely start arguing with you. And that is the chapter about swimming, because I am a swimmer myself and really could not get along with what you wrote there. But that’s okay.I am really looking forward to read eclipsed, which already lies on my desk.  Nice Work!
