We are family…

I was in Ireland last week, taking my mum home to see her two surviving sisters – Christina and Margaret, 89 and 94 respectively and both in care homes now. They are both Catholic nuns and have no family of their own to care for them. Kinder women you will never meet. Both nurses, Christina spent her working life in Nairobi and Margaret in Madagascar and India.

Modern Ireland might have eschewed the church and yet I was heartened to see the reverence and esteem that my aunts are held in. They are referred to as Sisters and there is obvious affection for them both.
