As I was saying…

A theme of my life and one which forms the spine of Eclipsed is that I am frequently wrong – and particularly so regarding all things show business which er… is purportedly my area of expertise.

But good news. Because, maybe I have finally turned the corner and reversed this losing streak I find myself on with news that Marvel and Sony have rekindled their highly lucrative business partnership.

Who knew?

Er…me!

As regular readers of this blog can attest, I predicted this all along. And not based on any inside knowledge that comes from knowing a certain pivotal protagonist in this equation. I just used my show-biz instincts and intuition which until now, has so utterly failed me.

In the summer, when Sony and Marvel announced that they were parting company, it became world news and journalists were even calling me for my take. “No comment” I enjoyed saying as I went on to explain that Spider-Man’s dad has just written a new novel called I…

“Hello… are you still there…”

The world seems jubilant of course at this news and I needn’t report that Tom is cock-a-hoop also – amply demonstrated by his vicarious use of a Leonardo De Caprio performance.

And this provided an unexpected upside for me also.

Ahead of my gig yesterday, Tom and I were cramming in a quick six holes when the news broke and this was then compounded with further exciting revelations, such that his phone was melting with calls, messages, pings and alerts and with this I spied a rare opportunity.

With each ping and vibration, his mind is pulled hither and tither…

Worldwide number 1 trending topic on twitter. Tom shanks his 7 iron.

A new trailer for Spies in Disguise lands. Another putt slides by.

Avengers 5 is announced? He pulls his drive.

Meanwhile, my phone is on but is not making a peep. I have my game face on and I am able to fully concentrate on the game that has thwarted me all of my life.

The Rock messages him. Thanks Dwayne. I might even beat him.

A shortened game as I say because I have a gig to get to… (some of us have to work)

…and on to the last hole, Tom has a putt to win our mini match.

This is a blog post that you can finish for yourselves.

Because anyone who knows anything about me and my life will know exactly how it ends.

Another great blog Dom! I hope your gig went well yesterday.
I sort of had a feeling that things would be resolved with Marvel and Sony. I was walking back from University when I got the notification that Tom had posted on Instagram, so I looked and saw that it was a video from Wolf of Wall Street and when I heard the “I’m not leaving” I freaked out. Congratulations to Tom, I look forward to the next movie!
    Have a good weekend Dom!
    From,

I see you have your ads back Dom! Hopefully you’re making a bit of cash of them now…? Anyway, I hope you at least try and have a lovely weekend after loosing to Tom!

Great blog Dom. You’re so gracious in defeat. Delighted to hear the the issues have been resolved for Tom. You’ll have more time to practice while he’s busy…..one day the victory will be yours. Hope you enjoyed the gig last night and all went well for you. Looking forward to the next blog. Have a great weekend.

Just think in fact you are the winner as you were the one to teach him the skills so in theory you are only playing against yourself so you will always win

So happy the movie moguls got things right! You’re the winner, celebrity comedian, married a great woman, have 4 brilliant boys, AND new mentor for parents of elite athletes ! Congratulations

As one previously posted, you have taught your boys to be gracious and just all around good people! Your blog is very enjoyable! I hope you gig went well for you because you do truly deserve that! Happy for Tom that the higher ups finally decided to work things out. Have a lovely weekend! My helicopter flying son is getting married today! We are also so very proud and excited for this next journey he is about to embark on?

I was so excited! I thought, “finally! He’s going to beat Tom!” Alas. Well, know I was rooting for you. The Rock seems to seal the deal for you! My condolences.

As parents we want nothing more than to see our kids succeed…but it would be nice to win at something besides doing laundry, I am still the champ at that. The fact that your boys are so family oriented and seem to carry themselves with such grace and maturity says a lot about their parents, so I think that is a pretty significant “win” for you! Keeping my fingers crossed however, that one day you will pull off that ever elusive victory on the golf course!

I love words and writing – but luckily I can do stand up also, otherwise, at least two Holland kids would have needed to be culled and it would be so difficult choosing which 2 of the 3 would have to go.

What a great blog post Dom! You and your family are such loving and good-hearted people. You and Nikki have raised such amazing boys who are very mature and hard-working. We definitely need more of that in our society. Also, I can assure you that victory will be yours someday! Hope you have a great weekend!

My 12 year old is sitting on the couch next to me as I read this and I am laughing so it sparked her interest. She makes a face and says, “of course Tom wins.” It is fantastic how you are so supportive of your sons and their success. In the meantime, keep writing. I love it.

I’ve got grandparents who live in Lancashire that play golf and whenever we do (pretty poor) shots up their hill, I’ve always enjoyed myself immensely. I’d love to start doing golf a bit more, however I live in south east London so my grandparents can’t really help. Any ideas where to go for beginners?

Hi there! Do you find it as interesting as I do that this news broke just days before Spider-Man Far From Home Blu-ray was to be released? My copy is set to arrive by 10/2, btw. Enjoy your day, Mr. Holland!

  13. Caroline DRUART says:

    Dear Mr HOLLAND,
I’m afraid to only be one of the many who came to your insta & blog through your eldest son… yeah, another one… Anyway, if I ever could I would thank him for getting me the opportunity to know about his entertaining father! Quite of each of your comments on insta makes my day I admit.
Unfortunately, even if my english is… reasonably good (I’m French btw), it’s not enough high-levelled (can I say this?) to fully understand everything you put in words. Hopefully, as I’ve been in love with this beautiful language since I was a kid and by reading your books, I will improve my abilities! Btw I’d be delighted if you felt free to correct my mistakes.
Lost in my thoughts, I can’t even remember why I wanted to send this message to you. What is for sure is that I’d like to thank you for being the nice person you are, as far as I can get it at least. As humanity is going through dark times at the moment (and the worst is yet to come if we keep being that unconscious and not changing our behaviour), it’s so refreshing to realize there are still good people in this world. And when you’re lucky enough to cross their way (somehow), I think that’s good to let us know about it.
So, once again, thank you, keep going the way you do (seeing and learning about you, your wife and sons and all you guys do to try to make this world a better place for those in need, your path is obviously a good one), send my love to your whole family included Tessa of course!
Looking forward to hearing from you,
    Love

This is the first time I’ve read your blog and it’s everything I hoped it would be. It’s witty and well-written! I look forward to the future blog in which, one day, you’ll write about how you left him in the dust -or rather, sand- at the golf course. Hope you had a great gig and have many more!
    Have a good day,
    Chantelle 🙂
