As the father of a 17 year old who is about to learn to drive – I read with interest the latest fate of Justin Bieber – arrested for drink driving, drug driving and driving in illegal street car drag racing in Miami.
And on quick reflection I have some sympathy with him.
I passed my test when I was 17 – a long time ago now – and when I passed I had no car and access only to my mum’s wheels – a Renault 4.
I assume that Justin though, owns his own car – and that said car is unlikely to be anything sensible, like a Focus or a Corsa.
No, much more likely that Justin will have one of these supercars that are capable of speeds more suited to vehicles with wings and something of a challenge to tame and keep to 55 mph.
But Justin Bieber is so uber famous and successful – I wonder what does a kid like him to get excited. When he plays stadia and shuts down airports the world over. He has more money than many countries – and no doubt a bevy of beauties at his beck and call.
It is unlikely then that JB is going to be a ‘mirror, signal and manoeuvre’ type of kid – and I am relieved that by comparison, my eldest son is completely and utterly normal and the only kind of crime I am expecting from him car related is that when driving I imagine he will listen to Radio 1 – which is a crime against culture.
