To Crete with some friends recently and in an airport book shop – I am feeling stressed, hopeful and a little overwhelmed… keen to make a good choice. Authors I’ve heard of – reassuring because I’ve heard of them, right? Against newbies who are likely to be winners because debut books habe their heart and…
Nikki often accuses me of not laughing enough and if this is true, then I put it down to my profession. Perhaps, I am unwittingly studying why something is funny rather than just enjoying it. Maybe so – but I still push back of course. I state firmly that I laugh plenty – just not with you! Ouch. I am joking btw.
Whilst I will refrain from wishing everyone another Happy 12 months ahead… but I cannot proceed without thanking everyone who responded to my first blog of the year. A departure for me in subject and one fraught with peril.
Practise makes perfect – or so the adage goes.
‘Perfect’ being relative of course and depending on myriad factors including ability and talents. The awkward upshot of this being that some people’s ‘perfect’ is better than others. More perfect, I suppose. Which is awkward but a fact of life and why we venerate certain people and not everyone.Golf is a useful way to contextualise this. Ultimately, used as the upside to a defeat and there are alternatives… Look on the bright side/there’s always a silver lining or better luck next time. But I prefer nothing…
The Open Championship on Sunday is always one of the great days of the year. The only game that I play and the sport that I love; the hardest game of all and why I admire it’s protagonists so much. Their skill and guile but also the mental toughness and fortitude that is required with…
Some people are better than others at pushing themselves and their wares on-line. It seems that the more brazen the person is, the better the results – and so perhaps I should be pleased with my meagre success in this arena. Certainly my pushing is always gentle – a ‘funny’ blog with a covert suggestion…
I have written on this blog before about the various issues I have with celebrity golf days. Namely the humiliation that comes with being a ‘celebrity’ of dubious calibre and especially so to my playing partners who have paid top dollar in the hope of playing golf with Alan Shearer, Harry Rednapp, Mike Tindall… An…
I’ve always loved the Open Championship – one of the oldest and most coveted competitions in sport. Everything about it is romantic. The fact that the winner is called The Champion Golfer of the Year – which seems so arrogant but there we are. That the trophy is called The Claret Jug. The silver…
First up, don’t fret – this post on fame is not about me. There are lots of perks to being famous – most so obvious that they don’t warrant listing here. But other privileges are more subtle and one of the greatest advantages of fame is the ability to help others – and the greater…
